United States of Amnesia | José Torres-Tama Performance
United States of Amnesia: In a System that Seduces You to Forget, Dare to Remember
In the satirical, genre-bending show, Torres-Tama channels a “shamanistic time traveler” to conjure the past and expose the present.
United States of Amnesia connects the dots across centuries — from the Three-Fifths Compromise and Indian Removal Act to Operation Wetback and Zero Tolerance immigration policies — tracing a brutal through-line of dehumanizing legislation that uplifts white supremacist thinking while exploiting Black, Brown, and Indigenous labor. Through humor and radical remembering, Torres-Tama calls out the hypocrisy of the colonial settler system and demands an awakening from the induced amnesia of empire.
“The most radical thing an artist can do today is dare to remember in a culture submerged in amnesia, lies, and misinformation,” Torres-Tama said.

Atlanta Recycles Day
Help protect the environment from harmful metals and divert useful materials away from the landfill! Take your hard-to-recycle electronics and tires, as well as all the regular single-stream stuff to the access road in front of CitiTrends.
We’re talking callphones, cameras, copies, computers, DVD playes, fax machines, medical equipment, printers, hospital equipment, projectors, radios, circuit boards, speakers, video game consoles, routers, and everything in between. Just about the only things they won’t take are TVs and old CRT monitors.

The Atlanta Citizen Review Board (ACRB) was established in 2007 to ensure that city departments directly responsible for public safety, particularly the Police Department and the Department of Corrections have the proper support of the government and its various agencies. It is designed to provide citizen oversight of misconduct accusations against sworn members of the police and corrections departments in the City of Atlanta. It is comprised of 15 citizen Board members and 14 staff, including 4 investigators.
The Board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month on the Second Floor of City Hall in Committee Room One. The ACRB office is located in Suite 1225, Tower Building of City Hall, on the first floor.
