The Keeper of the Scrolls

Rev. Dr. Jacqui Rose Tucker referred to her as “The Keeper of the Scrolls.” And that is exactly who Janice White Sikes Rogers was.

It is impossible to know all the ways that our community would be different had it not been for Janice’s advocacy and activism. In reviewing her archives at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, one thing is immediately clear: nearly every act of preservation and promotion done in West End in the 1980s and 1990s had her fingerprints on it, including the formation of the West End Historic District itself.

For Janice, documenting and preserving the histories of people and their places was the vital work to which she devoted much of her personal and professional life. West End and Atlanta will not be the same without her.
